The Pillowman
Written by Martin McDonagh
Directed by Kristof Haines
12–20 March 2027
About the Play
This jet-black comedy opens with a writer under interrogation by a totalitarian state about the content of his twisted short stories and their startling similarities to a series of child murders. Brutal and wickedly funny like the Grimm fairytales your parents never read you, The Pillowman is wildly engaging theatre. From the writer of In Bruges, The Banshees of Inisherin, and the recent Wild Horse Nine, this unforgettable piece shines a light on the immense power of stories, the absurdity of totalitarianism, and lengths to which we go for family.
Contains violence, offensive language, and content which may disturb.
Director
Kristof Haines
Kristof is wildly enthusiastic about telling authentic, beautiful stories that hit you right in the feels - something he's been striving to do as a director since 2019. Whether it's rural Ireland in the throes of a Hollywood whirlwind (Stones in His Pockets), a trash-strewn clearing in an English forest (Jerusalem), or an unobtrusive New York art studio spattered in red (RED), bringing audiences into new worlds and gripping their hearts is the secret sauce that keeps bringing him back to the director's chair. The Pillowman has held a special place in Kristof's dark heart for many, many years, and he is incredibly excited to be bringing it to profanely hilarious life with Dolphin Studio.
