THE ATOM ROOM
Written by Philip Braithwaite
Directed by Blair Purkiss
About the Play
A Sci-fi romance set 150 years in the future, simultaneously on Earth and Mars, Philip Braithwaite’s The Atom Room focuses on the extreme long-distance relationship between Sarah and Danny.
On an Earth wrecked through climate change, nuclear accidents and other environmental disasters, Sarah secures a dream job on mankind’s latest great achievement, a colony on Mars. Her decision however forces her to leave her partner Danny behind on Earth for the length of her contract. Despite the distance however, the couple still can connect through a highly-advanced virtual reality system that rivals real life itself known as The Atom Room.
The Atom Room explores many aspects of a long-distance relationship, work-life pressures and technology’s influence on the world and its people showing that even 150 years in the future, people are still people.

Audition Notes
All roles are open to ALL ETHNICITIES. Ideally every character would have a neutral English accent, however please do not let a lack of an English accent prevent you from auditioning! I am also willing to age performers up/down slightly as needed. I’m focused on finding strong performers first and foremost.
ACTS & Roles
Danny (Male, 25+)
Danny is a down-to-earth (literally) team leader who is married to Sarah. He is good humoured and tries his best to be supportive, even when the situation gets out of hand.
Sarah (Female, 25+)
Sarah is an intelligent and ambitious astrophysicist who is offered a dream job on Mars. She is excellent at finding solutions to problems but finds herself torn between what she wants and what is best for her relationship.
Margaret (Female, 40+)
Margaret is the CEO of EnviroCorp, based full-time on Mars. Sharp, charismatic and perhaps a little overbearing, she is a leader who is able to get the best from everyone working under her even at the cost of her own personal life.
