Miss Holmes

About the Play

When an anonymous note sends a newlywed wife in search of help, Miss Sherlock Holmes and Dr Dorothy Watson join forces to uncover the truth behind a corrupt police inspector whose wives have a habit of turning up dead.

But this Holmes and Watson face challenges beyond bringing a cunning criminal to justice. Miss Holmes possesses one of the greatest deductive minds of her generation, yet constantly struggles against the restrictions imposed by society and family. Dr Watson is equally determined, working to make a difference in a world where opportunities for women in medicine are sharply limited.

Inspired by the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Miss Holmes reimagines two iconic characters through a fresh theatrical lens, exploring mystery, intellect, partnership, and the added obstacles these women would face in Victorian London.

Director

JACQUELYN HARDING

Jacquelyn Harding first stepped onto the stage at the age of five and has since performed across acting, musical theatre, and dance. With a deep love of all aspects of theatre, she has also worked extensively behind the scenes and has a strong appreciation for the many people who bring a production to life.

She is passionate about community theatre, placing people at its heart. Jacquelyn is committed to creating an environment where performers feel safe, supported, and welcome — a space where they can take creative risks, build confidence, and enjoy the process of bringing a story to life together.

Jacquelyn returns to Dolphin Theatre after directing Joyful and Triumphant in 2024, an award-winning production recognised at both ACTT and NAPTA.

With Miss Holmes, she is excited to explore a fresh perspective on a well-loved story, asking “what if?” — reimagining Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson as women while honouring the spirit and investigative nature of the original work.
