LONDON SUITE

Written by Neil Simon
Directed by Brynna Kumar, Carolyn Loader, Richard Martin & Carleen Craig

About the Play

A posh London hotel plays host to a number of different guests who find themselves in a series of different comic scenarios.

There’s the inebriated Welsh writer who holds his long time business manager at gunpoint when he discovers that the manager has been stealing from him. There’s an American widow and her daughter who have traveled to England for the sites and the shopping, when the mother receives an invitation to spend her last evening in London on a whirlwind date with a wealthy Scotsman.

Fans of Simon's California Suite will be delighted to catch up with Oscar-winning actress Diana, who is reconnecting with her bisexual ex-husband Sidney, who has come to ask Diana for a favor.

And finally there's a fast-paced physical comedy about a married couple from New York who have lost their tickets to Wimbledon and are about to lose their suite to actor Kevin Costner who absolutely must have it now. Each scene will be helmed by one of the Dolphin's aspiring new directors, so come see what the next generation of Dolphin talent brings to the table!

ACTS & Roles

Settling Accounts - Brynna Kumar

Brian (Male 40-60)

A witty and talented Welsh writer, he finds himself in an unfortunate situation—his money has been stolen. He is intelligent and articulate, with a dry sense of humour, but also harbours a touch of frustration and desperation due to his predicament.

Billy (Male 40-60)

Brian’s loyal and pragmatic manager, Billy has been handling Brian’s finances for years. He is sharp, street-smart, and exasperated by Brian’s financial irresponsibility.

Going Home - Carolyn Loader

Sheryl (Mother) Semple (55 - 65)

A witty and resilient New Yorker with a sharp tongue and a keen sense of humor. Sheryl is resourceful and determined, making the best of any situation. Her dry wit and no-nonsense attitude hide a deeply caring and loyal nature.

Lauren Semple (25 - 35)

Sheryl’s daughter, Lauren, is a spirited and strong-willed young woman. She is intelligent, perceptive, and often finds herself mediating between her mother and the world. Lauren possesses a blend of youthful idealism and practical wisdom inherited from her mother.

Diana & Sidney - Richard Martin

Director’s Note: This scene especially will focus on the depth of character relationships and the emotional truths. While the play and this scene are full of humor, Diana and Sidney is primed to pack an emotional punch with the right cast dynamic.

DIANA (50s-60s, Female-presenting, British Accent Required)

A glamorous yet vulnerable actress. Diana is elegant and refined but harbors deep-seated insecurities. Reuniting with her ex-husband Sidney, she is forced to confront old wounds while maintaining her composure. A dynamic role requiring both humour and heart.

SIDNEY (50s-60s, Male-presenting, British Accent Prefered)

Witty and sophisticated. Once married to Diana, now lives in the Mediterranean with his male lover. His reunion with Diana is filled with both warmth and tension. Requires a strong charm and the ability to convey emotional nuance.

GRACE (20s-30s, Female-presenting)

Diana’s young and efficient assistant. A small but key role, Grace is professional and attentive, providing a contrast to Diana’s dramatic nature. While her stage time is brief, she adds an element of levity to the scene.

Man on the Floor - Carleen Craig

Mark - Male 30s-60s

He has flown from Los Angeles with his wife so they can attend the tennis at Wimbledon, but when his back goes out, it further complicates the chaos caused by a mis-communication with his wife. A very physical role. American accent preferred.

Exhausted after the flight from Los Angeles to London, she is at her wits end when getting to Wimbledon doesn’t go as smoothly as it should. A mildly physical role. American accent preferred.
