Clue: on Stage

BY Jonathan Lynn, Hunter Foster, Sandy Rustin, & Eric Price

DIRECTED BY Christina Christopher
19 April - 4 May 2024

Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery.

It’s a dark and stormy night, and every guest at this dinner party has an alias, the butler is well-stocked with weapons, and the host is dead!

The body count at Boddy Manor is stacking up, and every one of the iconic oddballs of the cult classic film and popular board game are here to solve the murder before it’s too late!

The dialogue is fast, the pace is furious and the comedy farcical and slapstick with a touch of the physical.

Director

For the last 15 years or so I have been actively involved Dolphin.

It is my home away from home and I am very grateful for the friends I have made, the skills I have learned and the confidence I have gained from being a part of this community.

I started at the Dolphin Theatre doing backstage/props and from there became a tech and stage manager. I was a regular stage manager for many years before deciding to take on the challenges of being on the play selection committee, joining the Dolphin committee (overseeing the Productions and Events portfolios) and directing (2018 One Acts – Hidden in this Picture and Moonlight & Magnolias in 2019).

In 2022 I took a ‘break’ , in 2023 re-joined the committee and in 2024 I am very excited to be directing Clue on stage in April.

Cast

After appearing in Howick Little Theatre's Old Love late last year,  Mark is happy to be back performing at The Dolphin, his last appearance here being the timid George in Glengarry Glen Ross.

'After reading the script and watching the cult classic movie, I knew I had to be in this show. The first few days after getting the call, were a mix of elation and terror, as I realised how big a challenge this role would be. But I've loved every minute of working with this amazing cast and crew. I kinda think the costume lady (Mrs Wadsworth) is pretty cute too.'

When not at rehearsals, Mark is an active member of the committee and can often be found in the Hauraki Gulf attempting to catch a few fish or cooking up a feast in a quiet bay or campground.

Emma is an actor and director who has worked extensively in theatres around Auckland.

She has previously appeared at Dolphin in Goodnight Mister Tom, Oliver Twist, Curtain Up, Spirit Level and Looking. She most recently appeared in Calendar Girls at Papakura Theatre. In 2023, she directed Dolphin’s production of Kimberly Akimbo.

Emma is delighted to be part of this fast-paced and hilarious production.

This one is for her good mate Fiona – Arohanui xx

New to the world of theatre but no stranger to making people laugh as a stand-up comedian, Jenni Chan joins the ensemble of CLUE with enthusiasm and talent.

Born and bred in Auckland, New Zealand, Jenni is a new actor who is also fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese.

With a passion for acting and a knack for comedy, Jenni is thrilled to share the hilarity of this production with audiences, marking an exciting debut in the theatrical world."

I  am delighted to have the opportunity to take part in my first show with the Dolphin Theatre.

Outside of treading the boards, I love video games and video game history, anchovies and kimchi.

Looking forward to being a part of the Clue ensemble.

Viola has loved the arts for as long as she can remember, so much so that she founded the AUT Performing Arts Club, to meet fellow theatre nerds and grow a new community of arts lovers!

Through this club Viola has directed, produced and performed in several shows, alongside jumping into the Auckland musical theatre/play scene with Debase Theatre’s ‘Catch Me If You Can’  and The Arden Ensemble’s ‘Twelfth Night’.

She’s thrilled to be stepping on to the Dolphin stage for the first time in such a fun and flirty role- and can’t wait for you to ride the roller coaster that is CLUE on Stage!

Geoffrey is a performer, director and playwright who first studied theatre at Brock University in St. Catharines, Canada.

A recent arrival to New Zealand, he now teaches Drama at Orewa College and performs whenever he gets the chance.

Most recently, he was in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the University of Canterbury where he played Helena. Geoffrey also performs locally in Auckland as a drag artist under the stage name Forest la Fae.

Clue is Geoffrey's first show at the Dolphin and is excited to play anxious mess, Mr. Green.

Karl is new to the world of theatre, but is already making his mark. Last year, his role as Mr. Santoro in Dolphin theatre’s Rehearsal for Murder earned him ACTT nominated, and his gritty performance as Sergeant Carlino in Wait Until Dark, helped that play win joint production of the year at Howick Little theatre.

Before acting, Karl has been a New Zealand Heavyweight champion in pro wrestling, a highly awarded advertising creative and an amazon best selling author.

Karl believes that life is to be lived. If you want to do something new, do it. You never know, it could be the greatest thing you have ever done.

Clue is Richard’s first show at the Dolphin Theatre and first time performing on stage in over a decade after joining the rat race. Now after getting laid off, he got a clue and finally has time to tread the boards once more!

Does he still have it?

Did he ever have ‘it’?

Only you can decide!

Natalie Peart is excited to be doing her first full show at The Dolphin, especially appearing as her idol and always chosen board game queen, Miss Scarlet.

Natalie has previously appeared as Yvette in Allo Allo, Vicki/Brooke in Noises Off, and Lt Cmdr Joanne in A Few Good Men.

During the day, she is a clinical psychologist and loves combining the two worlds of acting and psychology.

Richard studied acting by watching old episodes of the Benny Hill Show.

Weirdly, this is his third time playing a condiment-related character, having played Catsup in the little known Shakespeare work, "The Merchant of Hamburg", and Relish Beaver in the Tennesee Williams play "Dog on a Hot Steamed Bun"

Jacqueline says she knew she had to 'give this acting lark' another go the moment she saw CLUE in this year’s production line up and is thrilled to have this fun opportunity to bring Mrs Peacock to life

after many childhood years beating her brother at Cluedo, he'll deny it of course. Jacqueline's first appearance here at The Dolphin Theatre was as Bradley the naughtiest of kids in The Flint Street

Nativity. Her other limited, but equally joyful stage experiences include playing, Cora in Calendar Girls and Mrs Pickersgill the awkward customer in Are You Being Served, both over a

decade ago at The Playhouse Theatre Glen Eden. Jacqueline would like to thank the fabulous cast,Director and Production Team for all the fun and support and hopes you enjoy the next couple of hours as much as us.
