A Note From the Creative Team

Assassins is a fantastic show that we are really excited to be bringing to the stage.

Despite its historical roots, and age, it is an incredibly topical show, that asks the question “If you do everything that you’re supposed to, and don’t get what you need… what do you do?”

The intention for this show is to lean into the comedic aspects of it, while making sure that the serious subject matter, as well as depictions of real life people, are treated with care, respect, and attention to detail.

While this is a difficult show, with complex characters, themes and music that we intend to work very hard to do justice to, the primary intention is that everybody has a good time.

We are searching for a set of strong actors and storytellers, who can bring this group of intriguing characters to life, and have a blast doing it.

If you have questions, please feel free to get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you all at the auditions, and putting an incredible show together as a team.

  • Comfortable clothes and shoes for your dance audition

The Rehearsal Period

We will be beginning rehearsals in early February, and running Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as Sunday during the day. Please make sure you list all potential clashes on your form.

The Audition

Singing

Please prepare one song in the style of the show - something that shows off character and your ability to tell a story that an audience can connect to. An audition pianist will be provided.

You may also be asked to sing some scales and other small exercises.

As we are on a quite tight schedule for auditions, we would appreciate it if the songs are kept reasonably short.

Please do not be offended if you do not get to perform the entirety of your song. We are looking for specific things, and that may be quickly ascertained, or more easily worked out through repetition of short sections.

Acting

You will be asked to cold read a short portion of the script in order to demonstrate your ability to connect with the text and other actors.

This may be for a specific character, so please come prepared with a general knowledge of the show and the characters.

Dancing

There is a 20 minute dance slot at the end of each hour in which you will be taught a short piece of choreography to one of the songs. Please schedule your time accordingly – you will be at the theatre until the end of the hour your audition is in.

This choreography will allow you to showcase your dance ability, and give us an idea of what you are all capable of.

If you are not a strong dancer, please do not panic, this is a show that is more about movement than it is about dance, and this is a way of finding out how you learn.
