Synopsis
A bridegroom awakens on his wedding morning to find a strange girl in bed next to him; an extremely attractive girl whom, in his post-stag-night/morning after hangover, he cannot remotely remember ever meeting before. The bridal suite has been booked for the night before, the day and night of the wedding … and the bride will arrive at any moment! Chaos reigns and reaches nuclear proportions in this clever, funny, fast and furious play. “Perfect Wedding” has the rare combination of being a riotous comedy and also a touching love story at the same time.
All “Perfect Wedding” needs to succeed is the best six actors available; actors with good pace and good comedy timing which is essential for performing great farce. This is an excellent ensemble piece, with the five “younger” roles all being of equal length and importance, togetherwith Mother of the Bride, who although she is the last to make an appearance, is a dominant person from the start – she is determined that come what may, this will be the Perfect Wedding.
The acting ages for the five are late 20’s/early 30’s and the Mother of the Bride probably late 40’s/early 50’s.
List of Characters
| Rachel: The Bride. |
|
Always in command and later, very much in control. |
| Bill: The Bridegroom |
|
Rarely in command (would you be if you woke up on your wedding day and found a strange
girl in your bed?) |
| Tom: The Best Man |
|
Solid and dependable (even when he is lying and making up lies to support the first lies
made) |
| Judy: The Girl |
|
(The one found in bed). Very attractive and inventive. |
| Julie: A Chambermaid |
|
Kooky, volatile, no relation to the family of course, but has to enter into the spirit of
things to keep the customer happy. |
| Daphne: The Mother Of The Bride |
|
In a word emotional but nothing is going to spoil this big day. |
This is an English play; accents will just e a normal well spoken English type of speech. It may be possible to play Julie
with an accent of some sort, but this is something that can be looked at later; an accent would add colour to the
character however.
Rehearsals will be held Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
Season: Opens 28th July – 18th August 2012
